My dream has always been to help others and to consciously work at being a part of the preventative health care movement. What is this movement, you ask? This isn’t just about doing what it takes to optimize your health and slow your aging process. This is about actualizing your greatest human potential.
I’m a true believer that the path to positive change in the outside world is achieved by first nurturing our inside world. From my own experience, I have found the more I actively take charge of my health, the more I connect with the world around me.
This may sound like some hippie-dippy garbage, but I’m serious! We can all use this process to feel more awesome and balanced in our lives and in how we define ourselves.
We all need each other to become our best selves. For my own journey, I have mentored with and studied the ideas of many. I hope to share my insights with you as well so we can all become the best versions of ourselves.
So here’s my story….
Through my entire adolescence, I suffered from lack of energy, a diagnosis of having gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) at the age of 10, chronic sleep problems, and even depression. I was barely passing in high school and I didn’t care. I was a loser and I didn’t see the point of anything.
But something changed. I got sick of being sick. I was fed up with being average and constantly dwelling in the negativity and self-loathing that was only hurting myself. I wanted to take action and stop being a worthless human being. This motivated me to begin learning about nutrition and start eating better. I started to exercise and challenge my body—both physically and mentally. I no longer wanted to be the victim, but instead I became proactive and started to embody positive change in my own life.
When I got to college, I decided to pursue a degree in Environmental Studies. This might seem like a random choice, but living close to nature as a kid left an impression on me. That was the place I always found myself the happiest. Everything around me would feel so balanced and calm. I didn’t choose such an unconventional path of study with a job in mind either… heck, I didn’t even know what jobs were in the field of environmental work. What motivated me was the subjects we studied. It motivated me to be an activist in subjects of politics, the environment, social injustice issues, food-systems theories, and the like.
I deeply enjoyed my field of study, but I still felt like something was lacking. It was when I discovered the department of Holistic Health and Wellness Education that I knew I was on the right path. I decided to stay for an extra year and a half at college just to take on the holistic health classes. While there, I studied eastern and western medicine modalities, neuro and biofeedback, as well as philosophy. I couldn’t have been happier!
After graduating with my degree, I found myself continuing to research all things health and wellness. For some time I was a strong advocate of the SuperSlow or Body By Science method of exercise called High-Intensity Training (HIT). Through a stroke of luck, I found a HIT trainer in San Francisco who allowed me to apprentice under him as well as become certified to train my own clients using this type of exercise protocol. During that same time, I decided to immerse myself in a nutrition program to formalize my nutritional knowledge and become certified as a nutrition consultant.
And what’s exciting is that my journey hasn’t ended yet. My thirst to learn more and become more awesome continues. And I want to share my findings with you. I believe we can all make a difference in this world by becoming more connected with ourselves through diet, exercise, frame of mind, and deepening our connection with the world around us.
This is what has motivated me to create OptimizedFit. I’m here to help as many people as possible maximize their truest self! We all deserve to be as healthy as possible.
